At a recent Norwegian-Chinese seminar on food safety in Beijing, several Chinese speakers stressed they are taking a hard line toward fisheries fraud; one fish importer who had been found guilty of fraud, they noted, was sentenced to 18 years in jail.
The Chinese have developed good routines for control of food that is being imported or exported in accordance with other international regulations, the speakers said.
The Chinese speakers said the country's seafood industry is constantly gaining new players, but they are met by many new food product inspectors.
