Jose Ramon Gutierrez, chairman of Chilean salmon producer Multiexport, said the implementation of changes to the current regulation in Chile will mean a higher intervention by the government on stocking densities.

This, he said, will help avoid the "roller-coaster model the industry has followed for the past seven years," adding it is important that such changes are followed by an amendment in the law.

First, the law should differentiate fisheries from aquaculture, and second it should base production allowance on current capacity and performance, he said.
