AKVASMART has launched its biomass estimation system called AkvaSensor Vicass (Video Image Capturing And Sizing System), which it acquired from Canadian company Sigma Technologies.
The system uses stereoscopic video images of the fish, taken at three different depths in the cage. The images are then analysed using advanced geometry algorithm software that calculates the true live weight of the fish.
This process takes less than two hours for each cage, and generates a detailed and customised biomass report.
"Over the last couple of years, we have been looking at various available technology for estimating fish biomass in cages, " says Akvasmart's sales and marketing manager Trond Severinsen.
