BELGIAN company Steen FPM International - best known as a manufacturer of skinning machines - has developed and delivered automatic equipment for the processing of eels.
"We already have machines for skinning eels, but last year we introduced a fully automatic machine for skinning smoked eels and are now delivering entire processing lines for eels, " Steen's managing director Jan Leuridan says.
"The new processing line automates what used to be a very labour intensive process."
The eels are first cleaned and salted.
