Norwegian salmon farmer SalMar opened its new NOK 600 million (€64 million/$72 million) smolt facility in northern Norway on May 18, according to IntraFish Media sister company Fiskeribladet, but said this is just the beginning.

At the opening, SalMar CEO Trond Williksen used the opportunity to announce several other major plans set for northern Norway in the future.

"The hatchery at Senja is a milestone, but at the same time it is a first step,” said Williksen.

The second step will be the construction of a harvesting facility and processing plant, which will also cost around NOK 600 million (€64 million/$72 million), he said.
