Russia’s farmed mussel and oyster production doubled in the first nine months this year compared to the same period of 2015 to around 500 metric tons, the country’s fishery agency Rosrybolovstvo said.
By early December, harvests of wild bivalves also rose from 50 metric tons to 60 metric tons year-on-year.
The domestic market is, however, still dominated by imports, despite the growth in production.
Mussel and oyster imports amounted to 1,970 metric tons through September making up 77.8 percent of the market supply, which in turn grew 66.6
