A PROJECT which could lead to the construction of the UK's first lobster farm is being discussed by a large quarry company, Scottish fishermen and marine scientists.

Speaking to FFI early this month, Hugh Allen, secretary of the Mallaig & North West Fishermen's Association, said that Foster Yeoman, which has a huge quarry in the Oban area of north-west Scotland, had expressed considerable interest in the project.

The nearby Dunstaffnage fisheries research centre and the Marine Laboratory had been asked to assist.
