Attendees of the recent EuroShrimp 2017 event in Bremen, Germany, got an exclusive tour of the Centre of Aquaculture Research (ZAF), which is run by the organizers Alfred-Wegener-Institute (AWI) in Bremerhaven.

Research at the center, which was built in 2010, focuses on the biological requirements of organisms of culturing aquatic animals or plants.

The second focus is on optimizing husbandry conditions and on technical improvements or recirculation aquaculture systems (RAS) "for a profitable and sustainable production" of aquatic species.

The center's fresh and seawater tanks allow research on both controlled and reproductive species, AWI said.
