ORGANICALLY-FARMED prawns (shrimp) have been a big success story for Anchor Seafoods, the England-based global sourcing arm of the £45m turnover Seafood Company group, with 40% year-on-year gains reported by group marketing director Allen Townsend.

A key issue in developing the line for sale by major UK supermarket groups has been eating quality, according to Townsend.

"Consumers who prefer an organic alternative are now more discerning and it's not enough simply to stick on an organic label, " he says.

"Organically-farmed prawns are still relatively new to UK consumers, and some of the first products on the market were disappointing.
