Newburgh, New York-based Eco Shrimp Garden hopes to bring a more sustainable farmed shrimp alternative to the marketplace while boasting a 100-percent US-grown product.
Its indoor urban farm raises Pacific white shrimp in a saltwater facility using an Indoor Zero Water Exchange System – IZHEA. The shrimp is "free of chemicals, antibiotics, and hormones commonly associated with traditional shrimp farms," said the company, adding it has a 'Best Choice' ranking from the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch.
The IZHEA system " minimizes the use of water and land" and Eco Shrimp says it has nearly any carbon footprint.
