PerformFISH, a new €7 million ($7.8 million) EC-funded research project, launched last week in Greece, aims to develop consumer-driven aquaculture production with innovation for European sea bream and sea bass aquaculture.
Sea bream and sea bass are the fourth most farmed fish species in the EU and accounts for 36 percent of volume with a collective value of €1.04 billion ($1.16 billion).
However, concerns in recent years surfaced over lack of growth and improvement in the sector.
