A NORWEGIAN company is reporting excellent results commercially testing an innovative mussel harvester designed by Scottish company Xplora - which also designed the novel rope 'ladders' on which the mussels are being grown.

Olav Stople of Mytilus AS in Sandeid was the first in Norway to "take a chance" with the system invented and developed over the past couple of years by Xplora managing director Jim McLachlan.

An experienced diver, McLachlan had found that by improving the Spanish rope and peg system by making it into a ladder, not only was there 60% more surface area for the spat to attach, but also it allowed much more efficient harvesting by his innovative mussel harvester.
