As expected, California's Humboldt Bay Harbor, Recreation and Conservation District on Monday approved a 30-year lease with Nordic Aquafarms to build a land-based fish farm on the Samoa peninsula near Eureka, California.

Plans call for building an aquaculture facility that would eventually produce 25,000 tons of salmon annually for sale to major West Coast markets. Nordic is currently in the process of developing an East Coast land-based farm in Belfast, Maine.
