Seven years have now elapsed since the company which was listed on the American Stock Exchange as Marine Harvest International was sold in a cash tender offer for US$ 140 million.

This event closed the brief appearance of aquaculture on a major stock exchange.

Despite the significant success of this venture in giving initial shareholders a six-fold return on investment in only three years, aquaculture has never returned to Wall Street.

I have often asked myself why a single major success was not followed by other entrepreneurs bringing additional aquaculture ventures to the public securities markets.
