The Punjab government in northern India is introducing a 50 percent subsidy on shrimp farming to boost production in the state, reports The Daily Pioneer.

Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal also asked farmers to set up a shrimp producers’ society with representation from producers, fishery experts, scientists and officials, to enhance the shrimp production along scientific lines.

The minister is also offering farmers training at the Indian Council for Agricultural Research-Central Institute of Fisheries Education to learn about the latest techniques of shrimp production.
