THE wheelhouse in Scotland's latest pelagic trawler Ocean Quest is equipped with Furuno's new black box switch system which lets the skipper display sonar, sounders, radar and plotters on two flat screens.
Operationally, this gives a skipper tremendous flexibility.
For instance, when steaming along a busy channel in the fog, the radar image can be placed directly in front of the wheel alongside the electronic plotting charts.
While fishing, the same screens can display trawl monitoring and sonar information.
PC outputs and even television can be routed through a Furuno black box switch.
