GERMAN recirculation specialist Fischtechnik Fredelsloh recently handed over what it claims to be the world's biggest sturgeon farm based on recirculating aquaculture systems, located at Demmin in the north of the country.
Fischtechnik is well know as a turnkey supplier of such systems, and sees this project as a "milestone in development of controlled system for caviar production in aquaculture".
The Demmin farm has a production capacity of 11 tonnes a year of caviar - from Acipenser baeri - plus 130 to 150 tonnes of meat.
