Grieg Seafood CEO Morten Vike said the problem of amoebic gill disease (AGD) has been around for some time. But the company is not taking any chances, and has implemented its own contingency plan.

“AGD, or the amoeba, has been active in Scotland the last few years," Vike said. "There were some outbreaks in 2006, and we’ve seen some indications of this amoeba in Norway, luckily without this resulting in a biological challenge."

Grieg has long focused on the disease, he said.
