Canada's Grieg Seafood BC said earlier this month that several of its Nootka Sound farms showed signs of the pathogen furunculosis, an endemic disease found in the Pacific Ocean.

Grieg Seafood BC Director Marilyn Hutchinson told IntraFish that the company immediately began removing the dead fish from pens and are now returning to business as usual.

About 15,000 fish total were removed, Grieg said in a statement.

"We're on the tail end of the furunculosis," Hutchinson said. "Mortalities are down to normal now.
