Non-governmental organization (NGO) Greenpeace Chile said Pablo Benazaluce, appointed Chile’s undersecretary of fisheries and aquaculture April 7, came to the position in a “particularly complex moment.”
"One of the most important decisions he [Benazaluce] has to make is whether or not the Magallanes Region will be invaded by salmon farmers," said Matias Asun, national director of Greenpeace Chile.
The NGO started a new campaign to stop salmon farming expansion in the Magallanes earlier this year.
“The important thing is that he has in his hands key decisions that will significantly mark the environmental future of our country,” said Asun.
