Fjordlaks Aqua is building a $23.4 million (€21.5 million) hatchery in Tafjord, Norway, which is estimated to produce 4 million smolts per year, reports Norwegian paper Sunnmørsposten.

Roger Hofseth, general manager of Hofseth International, which co-owns Fjordlaks 50/50 with Yokohama Reito, confirmed the new hatchery, the paper said.

He said the company has already made arrangements with land owners and construction has begun.

The hatchery is slated to be finished in spring 2018.
