Aquaculture is quickly becoming an important component of food security and a source of livelihood for many, said research and development director for the Fiji Fisheries Ministry, reports The Fiji Times.
He made the comment while speaking to participants at a training session on tilapia and prawn farming management at Navutulevu Village in Serua this week.
He said the ministry aimed to produce one million tilapia fry in their hatcheries this year to be distributed to interested individuals or communities that had ponds.
