Norwegian research firm Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI) criticized Norwegian authorities' handling of development licenses granted for offshore cage farming.

"There is a link between increased sealice treatment and increased mortalities of farmed fish," FNI Researcher Irja Vormedal told IntraFish's sister publication Dagens Naeringsliv.

Farmers flush the fish with fresh or heated seawater to adhere to the sealice treatment levels, however, it results in more mortalities, Vormedal said.
