Chile’s salmon harvests decreased 17.1 percent in the first quarter of the year compared with the same period a year earlier.

In total, companies harvested 177,400 metric tons of salmon, the result of lower production caused by the algal bloom that occurred at the beginning of 2016, which affected volumes in Q1 2017.

Atlantic salmon harvests in the first three months of the year were 127,000 metric tons, down 24.2 percent compared with the same period a year earlier.

Coho volumes, on the other hand, increased 71.5
