Cargill announced earlier this week its development of a new type of omega-3-rich canola oil that could replace fish oil, and Willie Loh, vice-president of market development for global edible oil solutions, told IntraFish initial tests have gone swimmingly.

"Although a lot of people have talked about alternatives to fish oil and different sources of omega-3, it was clear that we were able to completely take fish oil out of the feed," Loh said.

"Fish oil is really a major limiting factor of further growth of the industry.
