A Costa Rica company is now Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certified for both its farm and processing plant.

The double certification is also designated as "two-star certification."

The Terrapez processing plant, which is associated with Aquacorporacion Internacional under Rain Forest Aquaculture, was recently certified as BAP's first tilapia plant in Costa Rica. The plant, which is in Guanacaste, processes more than 20,000 metric tons of both fresh and frozen products per year.

"Rain Forest Aquaculture should be applauded for this development," BAP Vice President of Development Peter Redmond said.
