German animal health and nutrition firm EW Group, owner of aquaculture genetics group AquaGen, on Wednesday announced it reached a deal to acquire Oslo, Norway-based GenoMar Genetics, one of the world's leading tilapia breeders.

GenoMar Genetics selectively bred a tilapia strain, GenoMar Supreme Tilapia (GST) over the course of 25 years.

EW Group recently entered the tilapia genetics sector with the acquisition of Brazilian breeding group Aquabel, giving EW a footprint in the Americas and Southeast Asia.

GenoMar Genetics has its primary operations in Luzon, Philippines, but operates in Malaysia and other countries as well.

GenoMar Genetics is a part of the Norway Fresh Group.
