Nobody wants rid of antibiotics more than Chilean salmon companies, and perhaps most frustrating to Chilean producers is the notion that they aren’t trying to address the problem, or worse -- that they don’t care.

The Chilean salmon industry spent a whopping $94.3 million (€84.7 million) on antibiotics in 2015.

Of those applications, some 90 percent were used to combat SRS, according to SalmonChile.

Direct costs due to mortality losses related to SRS are around $110 million (€98.7 million) a year.
