THE UNIVERSITY of New Hampshire's (UNH's) NOAAfunded Open Ocean Aquaculture Demonstration Project seeks to stimulate farming of cod, Atlantic halibut and haddock in the nearby US state of New England.
Hunt Howell, co-chair of the project's executive committee, gave an update on the work in a workshop during the recent Aquaculture 2004 meeting in Hawaii.
In April 2003, around 35,000 juvenile cod of 3 to 4g from Great Bay Aquaculture hatchery were transferred into two small inshore net pens. They were fed a Ziegler high protein diet three times a day through mid-September, when their mean size was about 50g.
