The seafood industry must address “feelings” rather than facts in order to persuade consumers to embrace genetically modified (GM) products in feed ingredients, starting with the huge potential of fish oil, the head of a leading aquafeed producer told IntraFish.

Carlos Diaz, CEO of global feed group BioMar, said there is a “fantastic” story to be told around fish oil, where GM plants rich in omega-3 can be developed sustainably to reduce pressure on wild fish stocks and help meet a looming supply gap in feed ingredients.
