BRIXHAM Trawler Race, the most famous and long established such event in the country, was held last Saturday in glorious sunshine, which drew large crowds throughout the day and helped to create the 'party' atmosphere that characterises the race.

There was also a very good entry of boats this year, said assistant race organiser Teresa Louth, managing director of the local fishing gear firm Baymarine.

Race organisers said on Tuesday that they expected the money raised for charity by the race weekend to equal or slightly beat last year's sum of around £7000.
