SPAIN'S Armon group of shipyards has won its biggest fishing vessel order by far: a 96 x 15.2 x 7.15 metre tuna purse seiner for Iran.
She is similar to the tuna seiner building next door at the Freire shipyard and the two yards will co-operate, with Armon buying Freire's workshop drawings. Both vessels are to a design by leading tuna seiner consultant Cintranaval-Defcar of Bilbao and Madrid.
However, the ship building at Armon Vigo will have greater daily freezing capacity.
Armon has built a series of longliners and smaller tuna vessels, but this is the first large tuna seiner to be ordered from the company which is better known for constructing vessels from about 20 up to 60 metres.
