NAMIBIA has built up a world-class hake fishing industry in less than a decade. The country has in hake one of the world's few rising groundfish stocks and there is some determination by both the government and the industry that it will be protected as the basis of prosperity for the country's future fishing industry.
Fishing company chiefs in Namibia were, in fact, excitedly waiting to hear what their new quotas would be for the May 2000/April 2001 season as FNI went to press.
