UK fish and chips shops may be forced to turn to Norway and Iceland to make up for a shortfall in cod supplies because a quota agreement for 2022 agreed to before Christmas with the Scandinavian nation is making it nearly impossible for a major UK fishing vessel to harvest cod.

The Kirkella, operated by UK Fisheries under a 50/50 joint venture between Icelandic fishing giant Samherji, and Dutch giant Parlevliet van der Plas (P&P), previously caught between 8-12 percent of the whitefish sold in British fish and chip shops.
