Russia’s pollock ‘B’ season officially kicked off this week, with projections that as much as 140,000 metric tons could be harvested through the end of the year -- just shy of the overall "B" season quota.

Harvesting in the Sea of Okhotsk started Oct.15, and will be followed soon by opening of the West Kamchatka and Kamchatka-Kurile zones on Nov. 1.

Around 157,000 metric tons remain in the overall Russian pollock quota, after a strong "A" season.

As of mid-October, the overall pollock catch in all of Russia’s Far East fishing basin is just over 1.65
