'People are going to have to be more adventurous': Ukraine crisis forces UK fish and chip shops to trial cheaper alternative species

UK fish and chip businesses are gearing up to trial alternative species such as tilapia and saithe in response to runaway whitefish cost inflation sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and an already damaging cost of living crisis in Britain.

In addition to one national chain, up to eight other smaller fish and chip shops will trial alternative species, Andrew Crook, president of the National Fish Fryers Federation (NFFF), told IntraFish.

One chain has already taken delivery of a container load of saithe to try out.
