Norwegian frozen cod exports to UK, China explode as Russian sanctions upend trade flows

In August alone, exports to the United Kingdom more than doubled after tariffs on Russian whitefish came into effect.

The surge in exports to the UK and China could be partly explained by an unwillingness or inability to buy Russian fish as well as the loss of Norway's Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification for the inshore cod fishery, said Finn-Arne Egeness, senior whitefish analyst at Nordea Markets.
