Brazil's tilapia industry is forecasting another year of double-digit growth in production in 2022, driven by investments by larger vertically integrated producers and the opening of new export markets.

Producers overcame an uphill struggle last year to post production growth of 9.8 percent to 534,005 metric tons.

The industry faced inflationary pressure throughout 2021, particularly on feed.

Since the beginning of last year, the cost of soy and corn has nearly doubled, although the average increase is in the region of 53 percent, Francisco Medeiros, president of aquaculture producers trade body Peixe BR, told IntraFish.
