European whitefish giant Espersen will suffer serious consequences from the decision Tuesday by fast-food giant McDonald's to close its 847 restaurants across Russia in response to Putin's invasion of Ukraine.

The Denmark-based company, a sizeable supplier of whitefish to the fast-food giant -- a contract it has held for decades -- was hoping to keep its Russian whitefish processing operations up and running for as long as possible, CEO Klaus Nielsen told IntraFish earlier this month, but the McDonald's announcement has forced the company to rethink its plans.
