A possible cut in the 2022 Alaska pollock fishing quota is one step closer to reality.

On Friday afternoon, the North Pacific Fishery Management Council's (NPFMC) Scientific and Statistical Committee (SSC) recommended an acceptable biological catch (ABC) limit of just over 1.1 million metric tons, in line with November's Stock Assessment and Fishery Evaluate (SAFE) report's advice.

Now the SSC's recommendation heads to the NPFMC’s Advisory Panel (AP), which proposes recommended total allowable catch (TAC) limits for pollock and other Alaska whitefish.
