UK seafood processors are continuing to work with the government to hammer out a definition for which Russian whitefish products should be subject to a 35 percent tariff in response to the February invasion of Ukraine by Russian -- a critical decision that could significantly impact the volume of cod entering the country.

While the 35 percent tariff took effect July 20, it may be weeks before there is a definitive ruling on which whitefish are impacted.

Whether or not Russian-caught fish moved through or processed in third countries will be impacted remains undecide but is under discussion in meetings between government and industry.
