European seafood companies reliant on processors in China and other Asian locations could see their consignments delayed for weeks following the blockage of the Suez Canal.

The Ever Given, a giant containership, ran aground on March 23 after being caught in a sandstorm, blocking the route of the critical waterway.

Attempts to refloat the vessel have so far failed.

The traditional maritime route between China and Europe runs through the South China Sea, the Malacca Strait, the waters of the Indian Ocean and the Suez Canal.
