Russia's seafood exports to China plummeted last year as COVID-related import restrictions forced suppliers away from a market that once accounted for 60 percent of its total purchases.

Exports to China, for years Russia’s largest seafood market, sunk 70 percent last year to around 310,000 metric tons -- a far cry from past years when the country imported as much as 1 million metric tons of product.

Frustrated seafood exporters, however, had no trouble finding homes for their products, sending supplies to markets across Europe, Asia and Africa booming, according to preliminary data from Russia’s fishery agency, Rosrybolovstvo.
