The European Commission on Tuesday proposed a new round of sanctions against Russia that if approved by member states would affect seafood imported into the EU from Russia.

The proposed fifth round of sanctions against Russia announced on April 5 includes specific new import bans, worth €5.5 billion ($6 billion), on products such as wood, cement, seafood and liquor, said an EU Commission announcement.

The announcement did not specify which seafoods could be part of the import ban, but the Reuters news agency reported caviar could be on the list.
