Chile's global salmon and trout exports increased 2.7 percent in the second quarter from a year earlier to 161,303 metric tons, helped by shipments to Japan and the United States.

Exports to Japan rose 9.5 percent from April to June to 18,318 metric tons, while shipments to the United States, Chile's largest market, were up 4.5 percent at 64,959 metric tons.

Demand for farmed salmon in the US market has cooled as consumers push back against rising prices during a period of widespread inflation.
