The parliament of the Faroe Islands approved legislation authorizing sanctions against Russia and Belarus on May 6, however seafood will not be impacted by the new measures.

The government said it condemns Russia’s armed attack on Ukraine and will closely follow the sanctions that the European Union and other western countries have already adopted.

As such, the Faroe Islands will implement port closures for Russian vessels, it said, but this will not include fishing vessels in a similar move to Norway at the end of April.
