The Cold Chain Association of China’s southern coastal city of Guangzhou -- which has a population of 14.9 million -- has asked that meat and seafood imports from "epidemic" areas be suspended, according to the Guanzhou Daily.

The association has not specified which regions and countries would be impacted by such a suspension, or if it has taken effect.

The request was issued after recent alleged discoveries of COVID-19 on outer shrimp packaging products shipped to China from Ecudaor.

Ecuador's shrimp producers say the virus must have come from contact with external sources as they pass through a long chain of custody en-route to their final destination.

By 2025, China's cold storage logistics industry is set to be worth CNY 522 billion ($75 billion/$63 billion), according to Cushman & Wakefield.
