Russia’s Pacific wild salmon season is in full swing and pulling in record high catches, and while that would seem a reason to celebrate, a dearth of cold storage space is a gathering dark cloud over the sector.

The salmon harvest across all regions of Russia’s Far East was more than 318,000 metric tons through Aug. 3, according to Russia’s fishery agency, Rosrybolovstvo, putting the overall catch in-line with the bumped 2019 catch, but over 250 percent higher than last year (pink salmon return to rivers on odd-year intervals, making year-on-year comparisons less revelatory).
