Chilean salmon and trout exporters are turning their attention to markets in Mexico, Taiwan and southeast Asia in an effort to recoup lost business in its key Chinese and Russian markets.

Shipments to China have not yet fully recovered from the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, including the detention of product in ports under the country's zero-tolerance COVID policy.

Chinese consumers also shunned Chilean salmon after negative reports surrounding the discovery of traces of COVID-19 on a chopping board used to cut salmon in a Beijing wholesale market in mid 2020.
