A Brazilian court has once again blocked Argentine red shrimp from entering the country over alleged food safety concerns.

The provisional ruling by a court in the capital city Brasilia brings forward an appeal by Brazilian producers led by industry trade body ABCC against an earlier ruling allowing Argentine shrimp to enter Brazil.

To achieve this, Brazilian producers returned to a familiar tactic, arguing that imported shrimp may be carrying disease harmful to local production, despite frequent accusations they are engaging in protectionism to keep prices artificially high.
